This was written during naptimes and edited late at night, sometimes pecked at while my toddler played independently or while he screwed up his face as he yowled for my attention.
While writing this (or, let’s be honest, probably while I got sidetracked in the process), I found a quote by author Jill Churchill that stuck with me: “There’s no way to be a perfect mother and a million ways to be a good one.”
When my baby kicked in utero and kept me up at night, or while I pumped breastmilk during the wee hours, I’d do something stupid.
I logged onto social media and read comments.
Before pregnancy and motherhood, I had no idea how flooded various outlets were with parenting content. Though I knew I wouldn’t find solid advice, I knew I’d at least find some guilty entertainment. It was a black hole only equaled by the doomsday-laden masochism of Googling pregnancy aches or my baby’s stuffy nose.
Having children will destroy the planet!
